Ralph Fiennes Confessions
Submit a Ralph confession!

Hey everyone. I know I’ve neglected this blog for ages, and I’m really sorry about that. Basically I’m just really busy at the moment and don’t have time to come on Tumblr much anymore.

So I’m looking for someone else to help run this blog. I’m not really sure how to select a new mod. I guess just the first person to message their e-mail address (the one they use for Tumblr) to this blog (http://fuckyeahralphfiennes.tumblr.com/ask) I’ll make a ‘member’ of this blog, as I believe it’s called. I think I’m only looking for one person at the moment, so if more than one person applies I’m sorry.

ALSO, I know I’ve been saying this for the longestlongestlongest time but I do still have all your Ralph Fiennes Confessions saved in the inbox, and I PROMISE they will get made and posted eventually. Sorry about that. </badmod>

Do you think that acting can fufill a higher purpose, and if so, what is that higher purpose for you?

Well, I would answer that by thinking of the performances I’ve seen given by other actors where I feel moved, and challenged and provoked by something in them that they’ve done — and it stayed with me. And I don’t know concretely how it’s affected me in terms of it’s made me a better person, but I do feel that it’s possible to be changed by an actor’s performance. And by change I mean you go on and you take that with you, and it affects your response to things and your memory of things, how you engage with things.

There are people who say, “Oh it’s just entertainment”, and you escape, and then you leave and you get back to your normal life. Well I’ve… I know I’ve been affected by and excited and inspired by the work of actors when they’ve shown me the full humanity of someone. I think, probably, it’s changed me and made me… I don’t know, I couldn’t say easily what it’s made me except that I like the fact that it’s changed me.

I just think film/theatre at its best, provokes. Provokes full emotions and change and catharsis. And if that can happen in us, and collectively, too, the collective spirit of the audience being changed by a performance is really powerful, and it’s something innate in us that we want in theatre and film, too. We want that change. [x]
